DRAFT LETTER TO
The Bishop of Hong Kong,
Home Farm,
Lewknor,
Oxford.
66
Thank you for writing to me about the Hong Kong
University.
I have brought myself up to date on the
facts, and I gather that the Colony has not so far made
any specific proposals to the Colonial Office for
assistance from Colonial Development and Welfare funds to
supplement the free grant of £250,000 from H.M. Government
and the similar sum which Hong Kong funds have made
available.

a case for the Colonial office to consider in relation to
the money available and, of course, the demands of other
Colonies. It is quite true that he has been warned that
the money is limited, that there are other claimants, and
that he will, therefore, have to make a strong case if he
is to justify further assistance. But the issue is
certainly not decided, and the next move is up to the
Governor of Hong Kong.
But as you
I hope that this information will help.

you may like to get in touch with him at whatever you
judge to be the right time.
